Recent Years (2022–2025)
15 years of activity - 2026
In 2026, Theatre Re will have been active for 15 years! The company has created 7 mid-scale productions and toured to 88 venues in more than 51 cities and 17 countries across 3 continents...
- From 2009 to 2011: Guillaume Pigé, then training at the International School of Corporeal Mime in London, founded the project that would later become Theatre Re.
- Early productions included gLoved and Your Letter, At Last!, which toured in the UK (Edinburgh Forest Fringe), France (Avignon OFF Festival) and Ireland (Dublin Fringe). These early pieces earned critical recognition, such as a 4-star review from the Irish Times and award nominations at the Avignon OFF Festival.
- Guillaume graduated in late 2010, and with momentum from the initial touring shows, he committed full-time to growing the company.
Theatre Re Established (2011 & 2012)
2011 is the pivotal year when Theatre Re truly became an ongoing professional ensemble:
- Associate Artist Alex Judd joined in 2011 (as composer & musician), beginning a long creative partnership. Other early team members included writer Adam Taylor and performer Tugba Tamer, later joined by lighting designer Katherine Graham.
- The company’s first major funded production was The Gambler, supported by Arts Council England.
- The Gambler previewed across London venues and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (with Pleasance) in 2012, where it received multiple 5-star reviews and was ranked among the top 3 best reviewed shows at the Fringe. This success led to a UK tour in 2013.
- Theatre Re also established a home in Haringey (North London) and developed a lasting relationship with Haringey Council.
Growth and Touring (2013–2015)
Over the next few years, the company solidified its ensemble approach and reputation:
- 2013: Became an Associate Company at South Hill Park Arts Centre (Bracknell). The company produced The Little Soldiers with Alex Judd, Selma Roth and Malik Ibheis; the show received two Off-West End Theatre Award nominations and toured in the UK (London and Edinburgh Fringe), France and Switzerland.
- 2014–2015: Malik Ibheis (performer and costume designer) became an Associate Artist of Theatre Re. The company developed Blind Man’s Song alongside core member Selma Roth. A.C Smith joined the company as Dramaturg. Blind Man’s Song was funded by Arts Council England and supported by partners like Haringey Council, South Hill Park and Greenwich Theatre.
- Blind Man’s Song opened at the prestigious London International Mime Festival (2015) and subsequently toured the UK, and Germany (Recklinghausen Ruhrfestspiele) and France (Mimos), earning positive recognition. Blind Man’s Song was the BBC’s highlight of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2015, picked by The Culture Trip as one of the UK local favourites for 2016 and part of Theatre Things highlights for 2016. Overall Blind Man’s Song was performed more than 80 times in the UK and abroad.
- By 2015, Katherine Graham also became an Associate Artist and Theatre Re was a Supported Company of The Greenwich Theatre.
Mid-Scale Works and International Recognition (2016–2018)
This period marked bigger, more ambitious productions and an expanding global profile:
- 2016: Theatre Re became an Associate Company at The Point, Eastleigh and established a permanent home in the South-West of England. The company began developing The Nature of Forgetting, a piece exploring memory and identity with contributions from scientists (including UCL’s Professor Kate Jeffery) and various memory groups such as the Alzheimer’s Society, Age UK and Dementia UK.
- The Nature of Forgetting premiered at the London International Mime Festival 2017 at Shoreditch Town Hall, then toured festivals including Latitude (Theatre Arena) and Edinburgh Fringe (Pleasance) — where it earned 13 five-star reviews and the ThreeWeeks Edinburgh Arts Editors’ Award 2017. It was seen by more than 6000 people in Edinburgh and was also part of the British Council Edinburgh Showcase.
- Post-Fringe, the piece toured widely, including a UK tour to 13 cities (including Leeds Playhouse and Worthing Theatres), and performances overseas at festivals and venues in Brazil (SESC Santana) and Peru (FAO Lima) with support from the British Council, and across the East Coast of the USA with Baylin Artist Management.
- Theatre Re also collaborated with Fourth Monkey Theatre Company to create The Woman and The Canvas in 2018, which also enjoyed a successful Edinburgh Fringe run.
- BIRTH began development and had a work-in-progress showing at South Hill Park.
- By 2018, Eyglo Belafonte also became an Associate Artist.
Continued Success & Global Touring (2019)
2019 was a major year for Theatre Re’s reputation on the world stage:
- Theatre Re finished developing BIRTH and started a collaboration with nationwide charity Aching Arms (supporting parents who have experienced the loss of a child at birth).
- BIRTH previewed at The Point, Eastleigh and then enjoyed a sold-out run at the London International Mime Festival (Shoreditch Town Hall).
- The Nature of Forgetting had its Asian premiere in South Korea (Wooran Foundation) and Hong Kong as part of the prestigious Hong Kong Arts Festival, and played in New York City at the New Victory Theater for 2 weeks. The piece also appeared in Taiwan (National Taichung Theatre) and opened the Salisbury International Arts Festival in the UK.
- In the summer, BIRTH toured to York Theatre Royal and festival stages including Latitude and the Edinburgh Fringe (Pleasance) gathering national and international interest. At the Fringe, it was awarded BEST THEATRE of the Edinburgh Fringe 2019 by Theatre Weekly and was nominated for BEST THEATRE of the Edinburgh Fringe 2019 by Broadway World.
- The Nature of Forgetting then toured Mexico (Cerventino Festival) and the Midwestern USA in autumn.
Capacity & Adaptation (2020–2021)
Theatre Re was affected by the global theatre shutdown due to COVID-19 and lost all its international work including; a European tour for BIRTH, and tours for The Nature of Forgetting in the US, China, and South Korea. However:
- The company received its first major Arts Council England grant to support infrastructure and capacity building. The company was able to form its first advisory group made of theatre professionals and wrote its first business plan.
- Development continued on new work (Bluebelle), and both The Nature of Forgetting and BIRTH remained in touring rotation, resuming performances as venues reopened.
- The company created A Christmas Quest - a site specific Christmas promenade for The Point in Eastleigh in 2021.
Recent Years (2022–2025)
- The company managed to secure larger year-long grants from Arts Council England to keep touring its repertoire, developing new work, growing its training offer, and strengthens its business model.
- Bluebelle premiered as part of the London International Mime Festival (2022) at Shoreditch Town Hall, while COVID’s restrictions were still in place. The piece was then re-developed for the Lighthouse (Poole 2023) and Sheffield’s Crucible (2024) receiving excellent reviews.
- 2023: The company started making Moments - a new more intimate piece about Theatre Re’s creative process and mid-life challenges with Katherine Graham, Alex Judd, Guillaume Pigé and Benjy Adams. The piece opened in 2024 in Sweden at the Goteborg’s Mime Festival and toured extensively in the UK in 2025.
- The Nature of Forgetting was licensed and remounted in South Korea with a Korean team. It played for 2 weeks in Seoul in 2022 at the Wooran Foundation and then again for 3 months in the Seoul Theatre District in 2023/2024. The show also toured to Busan (2022), Shanghai (2023), Beijing (2024) and Shenzhen (2025) with support from Performance Infinity and Theatre Bridge International. The piece also returned to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2025 and played the prestigious Pleasance Grand. 5,500 people came to see the show over the short 2-week stint. It was given another 10 five-star reviews and awarded Best Physical Theatre of the Fringe by Theatre Weekly.

- The company developed Resistiré at RADA with the MA Theatre Lab students (2023) and The Hand of God with the BA ETA students at Rose Bruford College. Both productions will form the basis of Theatre Re’s next larger project in development in 2026 and 2027.
- At the end of 2025, Claudia Marciano, Luna Tosin, Benjy Adams, Henry Webster and Ross Hayward all became Associate Artists of Theatre Re.
